Lezyne (rhymes with 'design') has quickly established itself as a company that makes reliable products that work well. Founded in March 2007, as the next venture by Truvativ founder Micki Mozuschek, Lezyne's stated goal was to "engineer and produce premium quality accessories that meet the same high standards as high-end bicycle components."

Well the company has done that in spades, and their Connect Drive system offers two class-leading lights operated by a wireless remote switch. We will road and off-road test this setup in the near future and will provide a detailed report on using the product in time for for Christmas shopping season, but from what we saw at Interbike, and what we already know of using Lezyne products, this is $150 well-spent on an essential cycling accessory that should give excellent service in a wide range of applications.

The control switch turns the lights on and off, as well as cycling through the functions. Dimly lit buttons in the remote indicate the light status. There are many situations when it would be strongly preferable to control the lights from a handlebar switch, so this system is a major plus for several different types of cyclist.

Both lights use rechargable batteries, with full recharge reached in two hours. The rear strip light plugs in directly to a USB socket, while the 800xl front light connects with a cable to a wall charger. The mounting straps used by Lezyne wrap around a wide range of bars, posts and tubes. They last a long time and are easy to use. The rear strip light is designed for a secure mount on both round and aero seat posts.

Lezyne designs its lights, and makes them in its own factory. This high degree of control over features and quality is one of the reasons their products have so quickly emerged as market leaders. The stated Lumens output of each light is verified in an integrating sphere, which eliminates inaccuracies resulting from directional characteristics of the source or measuring device. The front and rear lights will provide effective output for daytime use, as well as off-road night-time use. For the latter a helmet light used in conjuction is strongly recommended if riding singletrack.
