"At Breadwinner we have distinct models that are thoroughly designed and vetted, so we know they work really well. In the past both Ira and I did the one-man, do-anything shop, where each bike was kind of a prototype," says Tony Pereira of Breadwinner Cycles.

Tony Pereira and Ira Ryan co-founded the Portland, Oregon, company Breadwinner Cycles in 2013. Before then both Tony and Ira had been NAHBS award winners individually, and the synergy of combining their resources has resulted in a winning partnership. Tony Pereira explains one of the factors in their success: proven designs with variable themes. The result on a micro level is great looking bicycles that are a joy to ride, but in the big picture they're creating jobs in the US manufacturing sector.
